Besides his humourous newspaper columns, Cobb was the author

of more than 60 books and over 300 short stories.

Cobb was born at his grandfather's home on June 23, 1876 in

Paducah, Kentucky and died after a long illness in

New York City on March 10, 1944.

Cobb presents to Shirley Temple a special Oscar statue in recognition

for her contribution to screen entertainment at the 1935 Academy Awards. 

Cobb was asked to host the 7th Academy Awards which

were held at the Biltmore Hotel in Hollywood.
